There will be years for
cleaning and cooking......
for children grow up
when you're not looking.
Washing dishes the other day, my mind began to wander, as minds often do when dishes are washed. I still cannot believe that 2010 is here, life is just moving so fast these days. Is it just me or does each year fly by progressively faster and faster?
Anywhoooo....my son decided that he wanted to play with me right then and there instead of waiting for me to finish doing dishes. Ugh, three year old's can be so pushy, lol! At first I was reluctant, I have so much to catch up on. After thinking about how quickly the year had flown by, who was I kidding? I knew that time wasn't going to wait for any man, not me and not my son, so I left those dishes, yup, right there in that sink. Half washed dishes could wait, but my son would not.
When he came back into the kitchen to ask one more time he didn't see me there at the sink....I was hiding. He ran around the island calling my name and when he almost made it all the way around I jumped out from the pantry...BOO! Laughing hysterically it turned into tickle time. Tickle time turned into lego time and about an hour later we had all the matchbox cars spread from one end of the room to the next.
I looked around and we were sitting in a child's pile of toys! It is so easy to get wrapped up in the day to day things, lists are made, calendars filled and priorities carried out. This post is just because....because time moves by much too quickly and then we blink and our children grow.....
I want to remember our children's home....
the things that say children live here....
Blocks in the family room say children live here.....
My son makes me a mean playdoh "pa-s-getti meatballs",
I eat at his cafe at least once a week, lol.
Books all over the house, even in the bathroom!
The kitchen table is often covered in crayons....
Even from the outside you can tell children live here..
Little overalls hanging on the line to dry in the warmer months....
After playing it was time for a craft....my son loves doing crafts.
When it's time for mommy to paint signs, my son paints too.
I could tell you what happened but you can just tell for yourself by the pictures.....
LOL.....what a blessing children are....
even when they (and every thing around them)
are blue from head to toe!
I am off to build a castle by the fire now,
the vacuming can wait too!
Take care,
Dee
That reminds me of a cross stitch I did while I was pregnant with my daughter(who by the way is 19). Here it is:
ReplyDeleteCleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow because babies grow up we've learned to our sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs and dust go to sleep, I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.
as a mom of 5 grown children i can attest that time does fly by too fast. enjoy your time with your little one as they grow up way too fast! i cherish all the memories of playing with my 5 as they grew up.
ReplyDeleteOh Dee what a special time with your cutie...yes
ReplyDeletethey sure grow up fast...enjoy your special time as much as you can...cherish the memories..
Sweet Blessings...

What a wonderful post and oh so true. My son is a senior this year and will graduate high school. I too am amazed at how fast time flys. When he was a small boy an elderly lady came up to me while shopping and said "Enjoy him, honey. He will be grown before you know it" I smiled and said I would. I now realize how right she was. It really is easy to get caught up in life's daily routine. Thank you for the reminder to stop and enjoy the moment before it passes!!!

PS Your little boy is just adorable!!!
Well Dee, you chose the right things to take precedence over housework. Dishes will always need washing, it is true. Dust just settles down again; but children do grow up quickly in hindsight, and we don't want their memories monopolized by visions of our 'too busy'ness.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the Lord got my attention in that area when my kids were young and I got to not only stay home and watch them grow but be there and have a hand in the progress! You go, Dee, and thank you for a wonderful post!
Debbie
Love this post, Dee!
ReplyDeleteAs a busy mom to two preschoolers, thanks for the reminder of what's really important in life!!!
Blessings to you from Kansas,
Valerie
So right you are! I often drop everything and play with my toddler too. Most mornings, we are in our jammies until lunch because we are so involved in storybooks, stuffed animals and play kitchen. It's a wonderful thing to learn how to stop and be a kid yourself- so that your kids can grow up to be happier adults! One of my fondest memories of hanging out with my mom was when I was little, and we had 'living room picnics', which was no more than a rainy day, a vinyl table cloth and pb&j's.
ReplyDeleteWhat good is a home if it isn't lived in! I hate to see houses that look like no one lives there! Enjoy that farmhouse girl!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! My children are now 16 and 21 and it all went waaaay to fast! There are days when you absolutely have to get stuff done but that doesn't mean there isn't time for a story or a cuddle and sometimes, as you said, dishes or laundry can wait!

ReplyDeleteI so needed this post! Thank you. I too have a little boy and he is 2 1/2. I also have a daughter and she is 6. As I look around my house i so need to be cleaning. But you are so right! Time does not stand still. SO we go out and play and scatter toys all over the house. lol. I need to remind myself every now and then that we do have children and that it is okay to have toys out. :-) I love your blog and i check daily. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me. ~Blessings~ Nicole,Cedar Creek TX
ReplyDeleteMy oldest just turned 13 and my youngest turned 7. I have one in the middle at 9. It does go so fast.
ReplyDeletePutting our little ones first is so important. I loved this post! Savor every minute!!! My boys are 20 and 14 and it seems like just yesterday that I was eating playdough meals with them!
ReplyDeleteHugs,

OMGosh! What a beautiful and fun post! Yes, time flies and our kids grow up way too soon!
ReplyDeleteLoved the pics of your blue child! LOL!
I really enjoy your blog. Can't wait to read your next post!
That is one very HAPPY little boy! It could be mud or blue paint he won't care he is in heaven. Many times growing up I begged my Mom to come out and play but she worked outside the home and was busy taking care of the house and us. I so wish she had come out more often so I would have those memories because when she PLAYED she was so much FUN. Your children will remember all the fun times with you.

Hi Dee,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your blog and admire your work -especially as a homemaker. (I just shared a rant over your CL post but thought a personal note was in order for all the pleasure you've provided me here!) My kids are 3 and 6 and I also feel time racing all too fast. I feel blessed to work here on our farm full o critters n kids, but the mess and chaos can be overwhelming sometimes... Thanks for sharing and reminding us all of what's most important.
God Bless,
Leslie
My Grandma always said that time flew by faster the older you got...I believe it! WHeW! The last year just zipped right by!
ReplyDeleteMy little guy is 4 and he is a delight to our whole family - something about little boys and their earnest faces! Treasure right in our homes!
I try to stay in the moment everyday - to share life as a family side by side....
Love your son's blue hair!
